The Over Tones, Inc. currently has over 30 members from Guelph, Ontario and surrounding communities, who come from different backgrounds, musical abilities, age groups and have varying degrees of musical experience.

We offer a welcome and safe environment in which to learn the fine art of vocal performance.  One neat aspect of our craft is the ultimate in barbershopping experience – that of quarteting.  We have several active quartets (competing and non-competing) and we have FUN!

Our former Director, Jan-Ake Westin, is an accomplished and talented arranger as well as an exceptional director.  He has arranged many songs in our current Chorus repertoire which we love to perform.

We are currently involved in a Director Search Process and our Interim Director is JJ PIccolotto assisted by Stephanie Fournier.

If you are interested in fining out more about our Director Search Process, contact Dianne Ritz, dgritz@sentex.net

As a chorus who loves to compete, we attend Harmony, Inc.’s Area 5 Contest and Convention each May.  At this event, we call AC&C, we compete for the privilege of qualifying for the Harmony, Inc. International Contest and Convention held each year in November.  We have been Area 5 Champions many times.  In fact, we have qualified to compete in the Harmony, Inc. International Contest and Convention every year since 1966. This contest is held in various locations throughout Canada and the United States, and in 2010, will be held in Saint John, New Brunswick.  We have been top 10 finishers at the International level on many occasions and have held the International Champion title once.

We love to perform and have enjoyed great success in producing our own annual show and for the past five years we have performed them at the River Run Centre in Guelph.

This year we are having a Christmas Concert on Saturday, December 4 at Dublin Street United Church.

We have showcased our talents at Canada Day celebrations at Riverside Park, benefit performances for various organizations and corporate functions, weddings, funerals, local sporting events, and youth International events such as the Girl Guide International Camp. On June 20 we had the exciting experience of singing the National Anthems at the Blue Jays game!

Our goal when singing for an audience is to evoke a wide range of emotion through performance.  In order to inspire a diverse audience we must be able to relate to the little girl in the third row, the elderly senior, as well as the more musical sophisticate in our audiences.  This is indeed a challenge! However, our common denominator, which is our love of music, plus a talented, and dedicated Directing and Music team have rewarded us with standing ovations, laughter, tears and even more impromptu sing-a-longs from our audience!

We rehearse every Monday evening, from 7-10 pm at The Elliott – Community Room, 172 Metcalfe Street in Guelph.  We are always looking for new members who are interested in learning this wonderful barbershop craft and visitors are always welcome!
